Important Safety Update
The FDA has recently issued a safety alert regarding an increased risk of pulmonary aspiration events during surgery for patients taking GLP-1 medications such as Semaglutide and Tirzepatide. Pulmonary aspiration occurs when stomach contents are inhaled into the lungs, which can lead to serious complications. GLP-1 medications slow gastric emptying, potentially increasing the risk during procedures requiring anesthesia. Please inform your provider ahead of time when discussing a surgical treatment. This allows the care team to take appropriate precautions, such as adjusting preoperative fasting guidelines or medication timing, to ensure a safe and successful procedure.

Our clinic will be closed the week of December 23rd – 27th and December 31st – January 1st. Clinicians may have time available but responses may be delayed due to the holidays. If you are due for more medication at the end of the month, please reach out to your clinician earlier to avoid any delays.
