How To Administer a Subcutaneous (SQ) Injection Medivant Pre-filled Syringe

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for 15 seconds
  • Take medication of out the refrigerator
  • Prepare syringe
    • Twist off black stopper on syringe
    • Hold the syringe upright and gently push the plunger to remove any air in the syringe
    • Stop pushing if medication comes out!
  • Prepare needle
    • Twist off stopper on bottom of needle
    • Screw needle onto syringe
    • Twist off cap on top of the needle
  • Inject the medication
    • Clean skin on your belly or thigh with an alcohol swab
    • Hold the syringe like a dart
    • Insert the needle quickly and perpendicular to the skin
    • Push down on the plunger and hold for 3 extra seconds
  • Place the syringe and needle into the sharps container
  • Remember to put the unused syringes back in the refrigerator
  • Full sharps containers can be exchanged at our Bend or Seattle clinic or taken to a local landfill
