Compounded GLP-1 Medication Update
We know many of you have been eagerly awaiting updates on the availability of compounded GLP-1 medications. While we had hoped for a decision this week regarding the ongoing lawsuit between compounding pharmacies and the FDA, it now appears that an announcement will come later in March at the earliest. The March 19th, 2025 tirzepatide deadline will be delayed if the court has not made a ruling. On the upside, custom compounded GLP-1 formulations will likely remain available beyond FDA deadlines. We expect compounded GLP-1 medications to stay accessible and affordable in the future. We understand the uncertainty and are committed to keeping you informed and supported throughout this process.
Semaglutide Shortage Update & Pharmacy Distribution Timeline
Another development is semaglutide has been removed from the FDA’s shortage list along with tirzepatide. This means unless further legal action changes the ruling, the last day for pharmacy distribution of non patient specific compounded semaglutide will be May 22, 2025. The compounding pharmacy association filed a lawsuit against the FDA, just as they did with tirzepatide regarding medication availability.
