Retatrutide: Why Everyone’s Talking About It, and Why We Aren’t Prescribing It (Yet)

Nov 25, 2025

Retatrutide is getting a lot of attention in the metabolic and weight-management world—and we completely understand why patients are curious. Early trial results look impressive, and many people are wondering if it’s the next step after semaglutide or tirzepatide. We’ve been watching the research closely, and we’re excited about the possibilities. But right now, Flow Wellness is not prescribing retatrutide, and here’s the straightforward reason why.

What Is Retatrutide?

Retatrutide is an investigational medication currently in clinical trials. It’s unique because it targets three receptors involved in metabolism:

  • GLP-1

  • GIP

  • Glucagon

This triple-agonist activity may lead to faster and more powerful fat-loss and metabolic improvements than current medications. In early Phase 2 data, patients saw significant weight reduction and major improvements in metabolic health markers. Truly exciting science.

So Why Aren’t We Prescribing It?

1. It Isn’t FDA-Approved

Retatrutide is still in Phase 3 clinical trials. That means:

  • It has not been reviewed or approved for safety or effectiveness

  • There are no established dosing guidelines

  • It is not legally available for general prescribing

2. It Cannot Be Safely or Legally Compounded

Even though many peptides can be made by compounding pharmacies, retatrutide cannot. Because it’s still investigational and under patent protection:

  • Pharmacies in the U.S. cannot legally produce it

  • Any clinic offering it is using a product with unknown purity, potency, or sterility (yikes!)

  • There is no above-board, reliable way to obtain retatrutide in the United States today outside of an official clinical trial

We will never risk your safety by using an unverified source.

3. Safety Questions Still Need Real-World Answers

Early research shows increased GI side effects and possible lean-mass loss at higher doses. We want strong evidence that benefits outweigh risks before prescribing it broadly.
