Benefits of IV Glutathione

by | Sep 10, 2023

Glutathione is a naturally occurring antioxidant produced by the body. It consists of three amino acids: cysteine, glycine, and glutamic acid. Glutathione plays a vital role in protecting cells from damage caused by reactive oxygen species and free radicals. It also participates in various metabolic processes, detoxification, immune system function, and maintenance of cellular health.

IV (intravenous) glutathione supplementation involves the administration of glutathione directly into the bloodstream. This method allows for higher concentrations of glutathione to reach the cells compared to oral supplementation.

The potential benefits of IV glutathione supplementation include:

  1. Antioxidant effects: Glutathione acts as a powerful antioxidant, helping to neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative stress in the body. This may contribute to overall health and well-being.
  2. Detoxification support: Glutathione plays a crucial role in the detoxification process, particularly in the liver. It aids in the elimination of harmful toxins, heavy metals, and other substances that can accumulate in the body.
  3. Skin health: Some people use IV glutathione for its potential skin-lightening effects.
  4. Immune system support: Glutathione is involved in the regulation of immune system function. It helps maintain the optimal functioning of immune cells, which may enhance the body’s defense against infections and diseases.
  5. Energy production: Glutathione is involved in cellular energy production and may contribute to increased energy levels and improved physical performance in some individuals.

Glutathione is best known for its antioxidant properties.  What is an antioxidant?

An antioxidant is a molecule or substance that helps protect cells in the body from the harmful effects of oxidative stress. Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance between free radicals (highly reactive molecules with unpaired electrons) and the body’s ability to neutralize them. Free radicals are normal by-products of cellular metabolism and your body has mechanisms to eliminate them.  However if they build up to an excess amount, free radicals can damage cells, proteins, and DNA, which can contribute to various health problems, including aging, cancer, and chronic diseases.

Antioxidants work by donating electrons to free radicals, thereby neutralizing them and preventing them from causing damage to cells. They help maintain the balance between free radicals and antioxidants in the body, which is crucial for overall health.

Some common antioxidants include vitamins C and E, beta-carotene (a precursor to vitamin A), selenium, and various phytochemicals found in fruits, vegetables, and other plant-based foods. These antioxidants are obtained through the diet and play a role in protecting the body’s cells and tissues from oxidative damage.  IV Glutathione is one of the most powerful antioxidants in nature.  Glutathione is available with all of our IV infusions as a separate additive before or after the main infusion.

Please note IV and IM treatments are not FDA approved and not intended to treat any disease.
